High & Dry Glossop Sailors Breeze to Victory

After the Glossop team's Southport 12 Hour Race's prerace publicity last week, a third party has put out this press release:

A depleted youth squad from Glossop Sailing Club achieved 10th place out of a field of 28, their best ever result in the annual National Junior Twelve Hour Race, held at Southport, despite their sailing club withdrawing their support and leaving them high and dry without a boat on the day of the competition.

I got drawn!

I have been spending time recently on the #teenlug IRC channel talking to various interesting people, some of whom, I was slightly surprised to find, were from relatively close to where I live.
One of the people there, LeesyKate by nick, offered to draw a picture of me using the GNU Image Manipulation Program and a one pixel pencil. LeesyKate, by contrast, is not from the North West of England but from Southern Australia, how's that for international culture!
I think the outcome of the picture pretty good, and having had a go, certainly better than I could do, but you decide for yourself;

Wednesday Racing: DNF

Turning down an invitation to go to 5 Daze in May with some friends, I figured that the wind was a force 4-5 and it would be exciting sailing at GSC.

Marple Station - Surveillance Capital

Is it just me or does Marple Station have an inordinately large number of CCTV cameras?
I'm all for safer neighbourhoods, deterring criminals, stopping antisocial behaviour and any other new council buzzword of the day, however the CCTV cameras at Marple station give the place a cold, Orwellian atmosphere.

But why are 12 cameras needed to monitor the small manned station's premises?

Jellylegs Productions filming in Marple for BBC production "Sunshine"

Today, whilst on my way to college, I noticed a film crew set up on Marple high street.
Being in no rush, I got out and had a look, apparently a BBC Comedy Drama called "Sunshine", due to be aired in the autumn was being filmed.
I found it interesting to see they had one camera on tracks for moving shots while another one on a stationary tripod further up the road.
They seemed to be pretty much exclusivly filming people crossing the road and getting into cars etc.
