Whilst staying in Madeira in July, I came face to face with a "spa" for the second time in my life (the first time being 2 1/4 years earlier at the same hotel).
I hate spas!
Ok, a slight clarification on that point:
I hate the IDEA of spas.
I find it extremely difficult to come to terms with how anyone can get satisfaction from getting "invigorating" mud spread on them whilst considerably lightening their wallet.
Sure, it's great to relax from time to time, but seriously people - get real!
However, this is not the point.
If YOU want to relax whilst being covered in mud, give me a call and I'll charge you $200, for me to pour "soothing river mud" over you.
Hmm.. doesn't have the same ring to it does it?
It seems to me that the spa industry, like the mobile phone/broadband industry, relies on masses of buzzword bingo marketing to get it any new business at all.
*Everything* combats stress, whilst other things are good for people who fall into exceptionally broad categories.... those who play golf, those who have suffered from back pain, those who have recently got some important news, those who woke up this morning and other such non-nonsensical drivel. Reading these descriptions of services is often so artfully vague it could well be your horoscope.
Seriously. If there is one thing I intensely dislike, it's businesses that spout rubbish and exploit their clientèle through in return for lots of money.
